Heidi M. Dowd has more than 20 years of total industry experience. She joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2021 as a geologist specializing in reservoir characterization, sedimentology and stratigraphy, 3–D geocellular modeling, and appraisal to mature field development. Prior to joining D&M, Dowd worked for 7 years with OMV in Austria and Norway on international projects, and 9 years working with ExxonMobil, Occidental Petroleum, and Numeric Solutions on projects internationally and in the United States.

Dowd earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Illinois State University in 2000 and earned her master’s degree in geoscience in 2003 from University of Iowa, specializing in carbonate stratigraphy. Dowd is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the Society of Sedimentary Geology (SEPM), and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

Major Projects

Dowd has strong skills in 3–D geocellular modeling and integrating multiple datasets for reservoir characterization, estimation, and simulation projects. Additional skills include working with core (SCAL, RCA) and thin section data to identify facies using sedimentological and sequence stratigraphic methods.

Dowd served as the development geologist for OMV Norge on the Wisting discovery license in the Barents Sea, offshore Norway. This was an appraisal development project that included reservoir characterization, volume uncertainty modeling, simulation study, and risk assessment.

Dowd was involved with EOR development and primary development projects with Occidental Petroleum in California. Projects included primary well planning and development of fractured Monterey Shales (porcelanites) and an EOR waterflood drilling campaign in a gravity drainage field.

During her time with ExxonMobil, she provided petrophysical evaluation during the appraisal drilling of the Sao Tome Principe turbidite reservoirs. She also worked on reservoir quality studies on the Khuff Formation gas field offshore Qatar and on the Mishrif and Zobair Formations in Iraq. Dowd has also been involved in CCS feasibility studies in the LA Basin in California.
