Gary C. Robinson has over 45 years of experience in the petroleum industry. He joined DeGolyer and MacNaughton in 2009. Prior to joining D&M, Robinson worked for various geophysical companies (Denver Geophysical, CGG, RC Squared, Veritas, EP Tech, and Prism Seismic) and oil and gas companies (Mobil, Elf Aquitaine, Eastern American Energy, and Saudi Aramco).

Robinson graduated from Stanford University in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in geology and from the University of Houston in 1992 with a master’s degree in geophysics. He is a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers, Society of Petroleum Engineers, Dallas Geophysical Society, the Dallas Geological Society, Denver Geophysical Society, and Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. He became a Vice President of D&M in 2013.

Major Projects

Robinson has been involved in studies covering a diverse range of stratigraphic and structural settings, including foreland basins, forearc basins, rift basins, cratonic basins, passive margins, transform margins, convergent margins, thrust tectonics, wrench tectonics, extensional tectonics (normal and listric faulting), subsalt plays, pinnacle reefs, carbonate platforms, hydrothermal dolomites, non-marine sands, deltaic sands, shelf sands, turbidite sands, fractured volcanics, fractured shales, and fractured basement.

He is proficient with Kingdom, Divestco, Petrel, Landmark, and Geoquest geophysical interpretation software, and has extensive experience with Hampson Russell, RokDoc, and Jason for seismic inversion and AVO analysis. He also has experience in building geologic models in Petrel and RC Squared.
